TiVo Subs Get Sneak Peek of CBS' The Class

Mike Shields

SEPTEMBER 05, 2006 -

While the prevailing wisdom regarding the relationship between the broadcast networks and TiVo are natural enemies, CBS is taking a step to encourage users of the pioneering digital video recording service to record its new fall shows. The network has struck a deal to make its soon-to-premiere sitcom The Class available to TiVo subscribers to screen up to one week before its Sept. 18 premiere.

In addition, TiVo households will have access to clips and behind the scenes footage of three other upcoming CBS shows, including the James Woods-starring Shark, Jericho and Smith. Plus, in what the companies say is the first time a group of shows have been packaged together for recording, viewers can opt to record the premieres at once with one click of their TiVo remote.

According to CBS, TiVo can be the networks' friend rather than foe. “CBS’s partnership with TiVo is a creative new way to use DVR technology to help drive television network viewing,” said George Schweitzer, president of CBS Marketing Group.

The new TiVo-CBS partnership was developed in conjunction with Initiative Media, one of several Interpublic agencies that partnered with TiVo back in May on an extensive advertising package.
